Description[]
Yoshimura's Suzuka 8hr endurance machine enjoys a tuning that is quite different from the GSX-R1000s of other teams, and a dedication very typical to Yoshimura is evident in each and every part.
The engine is ported and polished, and incorporates special cams. The pistons and crankshaft were revamped for World Superbike (SBK) class racing. Attention was also placed on improving reliability in extremely high temperatures, by installing a unique liquid-cooled oil cooler on tne bottom of the radiator.
The factory team then supplied Showa parts for the front and rear suspensions. The black coating on the fork's quite thick inner tube is an especially prominent touch. Exquisite BBS forged-magnesium rims are installed both front and rear.
The seat cowl is independent from the seat, and the fuel tank can be removed by detaching the seat. Two hooks have also been installed to the left of the distinctive swing arm for hanging the chain when changing the tyre. Details such as these are where the GSX-R1000 makes the best use of Yoshimura's racing experience.
The potential of this bike was further improved with the 2005 model, based on the highly acclaimed GSX-R1000 with which the Yoshimura team won the Suzuka 300km Endurance race โ a warmup to the 8 Hour race. When the GSX-R1000 came in 4th in the prelims, fans expected a top-place finish in the 8 Hour race. Despite running 2nd at one point in the finals, the Yoshimura bike experienced trouble with its exhaust that caused it to drop out for repairs. After fighting its way back up to 3rd place, a slip in the rain ultimately resulted in an unlucky 10th-place finish. But the GSX-R1000 left a strong impression on those who witnessed this machine's incredible competitive spirit. Exhibiting acceleration on the straights that was downright amazing, the GSX-R1000 even outraced the manufacturers' works machines.
